I started Shoestring Shopping 20 years ago as a way to connect with people like me – people with frugality stamped into their DNA. What began as a newspaper column has truly evolved, since the way we shop has drastically changed in two decades. Back then it seemed like only people “in the know” were finding great deals; now with online shopping and e-mail alerts, it’s become easier for shoppers to get news about the latest sales. I started out with a handful of sales listed weekly in the Toronto Star, and now I speak with thousands of readers daily.
What hasn’t changed, through all the internet and coupon sites, is that we still want to snag that great deal. Whether it’s home décor, kitchen accessories or fashion, there is nothing better than the feeling of getting 50%, 75% or even 90% off the original price.
Today more than ever, we’re interested in finding ways to make our dollars go further. Though I often share my shopping and financial tips through our newsletters and various media interviews, Shoestring Shoppers tell me they want more. So I’m starting this blog, where I’ll share budgeting resources, tips on smart spending, and exciting shopping news. If you have tips of your own, I’d love to hear them; feel free to contact us
